Galaxy 51 Volunteer Application DateApplication will be available on Monday December 1, 2014POSITION TITLE: Galaxy 51 Patient Support VolunteerLOCATION: Seacrest Studios and Inpatient Care UnitsDAYS/HOURS: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays1:30PM-5:00PMTuesdays and Thursdays1:30PM-7:00PMAdditional “off schedule” times as needed for celebrity visitsRESPONSIBLE TO: Patient Media Programs StaffBASIC PURPOSE: To support patient participation in Galaxy 51 programming, an internal multi-media program at CHOP.RESPONSIBILITIES:Respond promptly and positively to patients, families and all others in a respectful, courteous and confidential manner.Greet patients, families and staff in a calm, professional and friendly manner.Receive report from Media Program, Child Life and/or nursing unit staff to identify priority patients.Round inpatient units to alert patients of on-air programming; Distribute flyers to patient rooms.Encourage patient participation at the bedside and/or in the atrium studio (if permitted).Coordinate with Child Life and/or nursing staff the escorting of patients to visit the atrium studio (if permitted).Coordinate with parents/caregivers the escorting of siblings to visit the atrium studio (if permitted).Serve as host/hostess of the atrium studio, as needed.Deliver prizes to inpatients, as directed.Maintains identifiable/appropriate attire at all times, including volunteer uniform (Galaxy 51 green shirt and black slacks with closed toe shoes) and photo identification badgeAdheres to all hospital policies, especially those regarding the use of social mediaQUALIFICATIONS:Outgoing, have a pleasant attitude, and get along well with children of all ages.Ability to demonstrate sensitivity around confidentiality and child development issues.Must be able to work as a member of a program team.Dependable, responsible, motivated, and able to follow directions from staff, and work well with little supervision.Maintain patient confidentiality and follow hospital policies as instructed during orientation.Be committed to volunteer on a consistent basis.Flexible and respectful in working with diverse patients, families, and staff.Willingness to accept the limit of a volunteer's role.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:No specific educational background required.Past experience interacting with children in some capacity is necessary.REQUIRED CERTIFICATES/REGISTRATIONS:N/APHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:Ability to move easily throughout the hospital and remain standing for extended periods of time. Ability to assist children as they move from their rooms to the studio. Must possess agility in order to interact with children at eye level.ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
